PicAltScan checks the alt-text on your product photos, then looks at each image and writes clear, keyword-rich alt-text. Your original images are never changed.

  1. 1Add keywordsOptional. Type the words your shoppers search for. They are worked in only where they fit. Pick a shorter or standard alt-text length, and whether to rewrite only missing and weak alt-text or every image.
  2. 2Add images or a Shopify CSVAdd JPG, PNG or WebP photos, or a Shopify products file. To get it: Shopify admin › Products › Export › "All products" › CSV for Excel.
  3. 3Check the auditThe list on the right already shows which images have missing, weak or good alt-text. This check is free and happens on your device.
  4. 4Press Scan & Write Alt-TextPicAltScan looks at each image and writes new alt-text, plus its type, colours, pattern and material. Use ✎ to edit, ✓ to keep or drop a new line, and × to remove an image.
  5. 5ExportShopify CSV gives you your products file back with the new alt-text filled in. In Shopify go to Products › Import, add the file and tick "Overwrite products with matching handles". Copy alt-text, Print / PDF and CSV report are there for everything else.
Good to know
  • Press Samples at the top to see an example first.
  • Images are scanned in groups of 6, and you can add up to 500 at a time.
  • Alt-text under 125 characters reads best for screen readers. Choose Short for 80.
  • The Shopify CSV button only works when you added a Shopify products file.
  • Your business name and Client / ID head every printout and spreadsheet.
  • Press Clear at the top to start fresh. Your business name stays.
  • Only a resized copy of each photo is sent to our AI (see Privacy by Design).
